Observation from the bridge
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who participated in the Leadership Forum 2013. It was ambitious – we reached high, and, as expected, while seeking opportunities we confronted several challenges. It is in confronting these challenges that together we will make Leadership Forum 2015 stronger.
This note is dedicated to leadership. Bold leadership. For a first time event, securing leaders in industry, politics, and civil society was no easy task. Harder still when you are requesting a hard examination of practices that could be done better. Under umbrella themes of sexualization, gender stereotypes, and body confidence in connection to marketing, advertising, media, and fashion guaranteed an interesting mix of measured responses. Flying Bridges spent a lot of time researching speakers – they needed to be leaders with substance, leaders who excel in challenges, leaders who believe in the value of new ideas.
We chose to provide our speakers with very little preparation as the purpose was open dialogue – just short of a brainstorming session, our moderators succeeded in finding the point of intersection where different perspectives met and careful consideration could begin. In a fast-paced, outcome driven world, we wanted to bring back the impactful nature of meaningful conversation. The intent was to build the conversations that foster the relationships that lead to change. Our speakers rose to the occasion and went above and beyond. Repeatedly, the comments we have been receiving is the thrill of being a part of honest unscripted dialogue.
We need to thank the leadership at the table for making the courageous choice to actively engage and speak from the heart. For the subject of children, young people, and the opportunities that lie ahead to nurture them, in the end, must come from he (or she) who believes in the power of possibilities.
Here’s to all the new changes new thinking will bring,
